  	In the baptismal records for St-Joseph in Burlington, Vermont, Pierre Chartier’s record says his parents are “Pierre Chartier and Clotilde Degolys”. In the 1890-91 West Bay, Michigan directory there is a Peter Chartier living at 712 N. Walnut St. He was a longshoreman. There was a boarder in the home by the name of Charles Chartier who was also a longshoremen. In the 1896 West Bay, Michigan directory there is a Peter Chartier residing at 712 N. Walnut. He was a longshoreman. When the 1900 census was taken, this “Charterer” family was living at 2811 Agate St. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Peter was a laborer. His wife said she was the mother of 9 children with 2 of them living. Peter said his father and mother were born in Canada. When the 1910 census was taken, Peter was remarried. His new family was living at 443 Washington St. in Quincy (Norfolk), Massachusetts. He was a station engineer at a ship yard. Frank was a rigger at a ship yard. In this census Frank said both his mother and father were born in Michigan. Also in the household was Frank Chartier, who was a rigger in a shipyard and Edna Stewart, age 21, Christina Vincent, age 15, and Lenna Vincent, age 12. These are stepdaughters of Peter, and they all were born in Pennsylvania. This would indicate that Christina may have had two marriages before she married Peter. When the 1920 census was taken, Laura Chartier was living at 661 Washington St. in Quincy. She was keeping a boarding house. She says she is married, but there is no husband in the household.
