- Charles Shorkey was the owner of a small, but long-lived spring water business called Victory Springs at 23 Third St. in Mt. Clemens, Michigan which he established in 1892. Victory changed hands sometime in the 1930s, when Nicholas and Mary Hanoitis were the proprietors, and continued until the early 1950s, when the business name was changed to Victory Gardens before disappearing around 1958. In the 1900 census the family name is spelled “Scharkey”. In the 1910 census the name appears to be spelled “Shorkey”. In the 1920 census the name is clearly spelled “Sharkey”. However, Charles son Floyd is also shown in the 1920 census and his name is spelled Floyd “Shorlsey”. In the 1930 census Floyd’s last name is clearly spelled “Shorkey”.
