- When Napoleon moved to Duck Lake, Saskatchewan, the British soldiers had already started to challenge the French Metis to give up their lands. Louis Riel had his camp at Batoche to the East, and the army was at Fort Carlton to the West. Dumont and several Indians or Metis were even residing at Duck Lake. This Chartier family moved many times from North Dakota to the Northwest Territories. In 1940, Napoleon and Helene celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Ten of their 15 children died before reaching adulthood
