- There is an Archive Record for this family in the LDS library. It was placed there by John Warren Merrill, 5099 Kiwana Dr., Odgen, Utah before 1969. This record has 1824 for the year “Francis” was born whereas all of the census records have ca 1829. Francois may have had an earlier marriage because of the large difference in age between Francois and Mary. When the 1850 census was taken, Francis Chartier was single and living with his brother, Joseph in Pulaski (Iowa), Wisconsin Francis was a farmer. Francis could not be found in the 1860 census which might mean he returned to Canada. When the 1870 census was taken, this family was living in Wausau (Marathon), Wisconsin. Frank Chartier was a lumberman. When the 1880 census was taken, this family was living in Pine River (Lincoln), Wisconsin where now Francis is a farmer. When the 1900 census was taken, this family was still living in Pine River and Frank was still a farmer. In this census Frank says he immigrated in 1852. Also, Mary said she was the mother of 11 children with 7 of them living. When the 1910 census was taken, “Frank Shurtier” (indexed as Frank Shurtin) was widowed and was an inmate in the Lincoln County Home, Alms House.
