- The information on the family of Leonard W. Chartier came from an obituary published in The Topeka Capital-Journal on 18 Jun 2000. Leonard was a plaster. He later worked for Seymour Packing Co., and then in Boogaart Store’s warehouse and Boogaart’s drugs and housewares department. He later was a greeter at the Wal-Mart stores in Concordia. He was a veteran of WWII and was a member of Davies-Crook Post No. 76 of the American Legion and Martin-LeSage Post No. 588 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Concordia. Besides his children, he was survived by 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. When the 1940 census was taken, Leonard and Ruth were living at 325 West Second St. in Concordia, Kansas. Leonard was a laborer, road construction. Also in the household was Ruth’s mother, Lucy Miller, age 54 and a widow.
