- When the 1900 census was taken, this family was living in Troy (Rensselaer), NY. The names in the ancestry.com are spelled Frank, Elphie, Minnie, Selvina, Lillie, and Estella Shortle. Frank was a widower. He was a railroad man, and he said the family immigrated in 1890. Elphie (Olphir) was a clerk and Minnie (Malvina) worked in a collar shop. Also in the household was Jeremiah Mayard who is listed as a brother. Jeremiah was 27 years old and was a teamster. Jeremiah was probably a brother of Malvina. When the 1910 census was taken, Frank and his family were living on Berkshire Ave.in Cohoes. Frank was a carpenter in a box shop. When the 1920 census was taken, Rena Chartier was a boarder in the home of Emil and Malvina Galipeau in Cohoes, NY. She was a shirt maker in a collar shop. Malvina Galipeau was probably Rena’s sister. Even though this was a second marriage for Zephirine, she said she had no children. When the 1920 census was taken, Zephrine was a widow living with her sister at 110 Goselin Ave. in Cohoes City. She and her sister were dressmakers. When the 1930 census was taken, Zyphrine was living in the home of Hans and Helen Lund on Van Husen Ave. in Maywood, part of the town of Colonie.
