News: Welcome to our new site! All data from the old site (including photos) have now been uploaded (whew!)

I will now begin granting limited access to users that have requested it, however all edits will be reviewed by either Vernon CHARTIER or myself for the time being until we're sure the user knows how the new system works (and he and I are still learning it too!).

NOTE: The maps feature does not seem to work well on GOOGLE Chrome, so use the internet browser bundled with Windows.

    • Name Jean-Baptiste CHARTIER
      • When the 1870 census was taken, this family lived in St Anne, Illinois. Jean-Baptiste was a farmer. Jean-Baptiste Chartier emigrated to Salina (Saline), Kansas where he and his brother Henry filed preliminary naturalization papers on February 15, 1879. When the 1880 census was taken, Jean-Baptiste and two of his brothers were living in Empire (Ellsworth), Kansas under the names Sharkey or Sharky. Jean-Baptiste returned to Illinois and eventually to Indiana. The other three brothers stayed in Kansas. When the 1900 census was taken, John, Rose and Eva were living in Hammond (Lake), Indiana. John was a street laborer, and Eva worked in a Millinery. In this census Rose says she was the mother of 9 children with only two of them living, which of course doesn’t make any sense. When the 1910 census was taken, this family was still living in Hammond. Also in the household were John, Jr. and his two children. John, Sr. was some kind of laborer. Rose says she was the mother of 8 children with 2 of them living which still don’t make any sense. According to June 15, 1900 census, Jean-Baptiste and Larosa had 8 children, but only two were alive. But the 1910 census said they had 9 children with only two still alive.
