- Charles paid a visit to Narcisse in Massachusetts in 1876; but he decided in 1878 to work in the Iron mines near Ironwood, Michigan. In 1879 his family followed. When the 1880 census was taken, the family was living in Breitung Township in Menominee County, Michigan. Charles “Shortke” was a laborer. Sometime in 1880, they moved to Jewett City, Connecticut. Finally, in 1890 they mostly moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts. When the 1900 census was taken, the “Charles Sharkey” family can be found at 208 River St. in New Bedford. Charles was a bricklayer. When the 1910 census was taken, Charles was a widower living in the home of his daughter, Florida McAllister at 66 Brook? Ave. in New Bedford.
