- Was a priest. Around 1950, the father of Jean (Chartier) Robert reported this conversation with Mathias:
"Not long ago, Raoul (Jean Robert’s father) was on the train to Quebec when an old man came aboard and took a seat next to him where there was already a young girl. He asked her name and she was a "Robert". Then the old man said "Ah youre a "Robert"... Then, youre an Indian, since all "Robert" are "Indians". Frankly, when Raoul heard this he bounced up...and...and... failed to kill the old man!" Of course, Mathias was not a genealogist and ignored that "Robert" was a surname to over 50 unrelated family groups one of them being the Indian family "OBomsawin-dit-Robert".
